How To Attract, Repel, and Nourish the Garden with Essential Oils

Aphids, spiders, ants, moths and many other pests are hungry and waiting to eat up your garden! In my 6/13/18 blog, I talked about companion plants repelling pests in your garden.  Well, there’s another way to stop those buggers…with essential oils.  These oils also nourish your plants.  Did you know that Basil essential oil helps your tomatoes grow and Peppermint will address pests and rodents.

One thing to remember is that certain essential oils are toxic to pets and to beneficial bugs and pollinators.  My advice is to check with the manufacturer of the oils that you purchase.  Additionally, another option is the Pet Poison Helpline that has really valuable information on pet-safe oils, and the ones that are toxic to your fur bebe (wow! who knew tea tree oil was toxic to dogs?!).

So, how do you apply the oils?
You can use a small sprayer with oils and water to create a foliar spray for your garden.  Amazon has a good selection of sprayers.  Also, check with your local hardware store or garden supply center.

The time you spend researching the information needed to be sustainable in your garden will reap a priceless reward; not to mention the splendid aromas from the oils wafting through the air!

I believe each of us is called to be stewards of nature.  By not using toxic sprays in the garden and substituting essential oils, we’re ensuring cleaner air for us, our families, pets, and for future generations.
